Cub Scout Uniform Guide

One of the more confusing aspects of cub scouting is the proper placement of insignia on the uniform. We have developed the following guidelines for the most common badges and awards in our pack; if you have questions about a specific award you can contact your den leader or cubmaster. Standard Insignia (cubs must purchase these with the shirt)

Council Patch
Worn directly below the shoulder seam, centered on the left sleeve.
US Flag
Worn directly below the shoulder seam, centered on the right sleeve.

Note: This patch is provided with the shirt, and does not need to be purchased separately.

Pack Number
Worn directly below the council patch, centered on the left sleeve.
Cub Scout Den Insignia
Worn directly below the US flag, centered on the right sleeve
Webelos Den Insignia
Worn directly below the US flag, centered on the right sleeve
World Crest
Worn centered horizontally above the left pocket, and placed vertically between the left shoulder seam and the top of the pocket.

Badges of Rank (awarded to the cub by the pack)

Bobcat Badge
Worn on the left pocket, arranged in a diamond shape (click here for specific location).

Tiger Badge
Worn on the left pocket, arranged in a diamond shape (click here for specific location).

Wolf Badge
Worn on the left pocket, arranged in a diamond shape (click here for specific location).

Bear Badge
Worn on the left pocket, arranged in a diamond shape (click here for specific location).

Webelos Badge – Diamond
Worn on the left pocket, arranged in a diamond shape (replaces the Tiger rank badge).

Webelos Badge – Oval
Worn centered on the left pocket of the tan uniform only, with no other badges or insignia on the pocket.

Arrow of Light
On the blue uniform, worn on the left pocket flap, centered over the button.

On the tan uniform, worn directly below the left pocket, below the oval Webelos badge.

Badges of Recognition (awarded to the cub by the pack)

Tiger Progress Toward Rank
Worn on the right pocket button. Orange, white, and black beads are awarded for progress toward the Tiger rank badge. Yellow beads are awarded for Tiger electives.
Wolf/Bear Progress Toward Rank
Worn on the right pocket button. Yellow beads are awarded for progress toward the Wolf rank badge. Red beads are awarded for progress toward the Bear rank badge.
Arrow Points
Worn centered below the Wolf or Bear rank badge, just below the bottom seam of the left pocket. A gold arrow point is awarded for the first elective completed for both Wolf and Bear rank badges. Subsequent arrow point awards are silver, placed below the appropriate gold arrow point. Silver arrows can also be worn in columns centered beneath the gold arrow.
Webelos Colors
Worn on the right sleeve, directly below the Webelos den insignia.
Webelos Activity Badges
Worn on the Webelos colors.
Webelos Compass
Worn on the button of the right shirt pocket. Compass points are awarded for completion of additional activity badges, and are affixed to the patch in any available point location.
Religious Emblems
The square knot patch is worn centered over the left pocket. The medal is worn only for formal occasions, such as Blue & Gold Banquet, uniform inspection, etc.
Activity Medals
Worn centered above the left pocket only for formal occasions, such as Blue & Gold Banquet, uniform inspection, etc.

Badges of Participation (awarded to the cub by the pack)

Temporary Insignia
These are typically patches awarded for participation in various camps and other pack activities. Only one temporary insignia may be worn at a time, centered on the right pocket.
World Conservation Award
Temporary insignia, worn centered on the right pocket. Only one temporary insignia may be worn at a time.
Leave No Trace Award
Temporary insignia, worn centered on the right pocket. Only one temporary insignia may be worn at a time.
Outdoor Activity Award
Worn on the right pocket flap.
Webelos Super Achiever Award
Temporary insignia, worn centered on the right pocket. Only one temporary insignia may be worn at a time.
Pack Summertime Award Pin
Worn centered on the right pocket flap. Only one award may be worn at a time.
Emergency Preparedness Award
Worn centered on the left pocket flap.
Recruiter Strip
Worn centered and directly below the right pocket.
Quality Unit Award
Worn centered on the right sleeve, 4 inches below the right shoulder seam.

Belt Loops & Pins (awarded to the cub by the pack)

Belt Loops
Worn on the cub scout belt, BB Gun and Archery can only be earned by attending summer camp.
Pins
Not authorized for wear on the uniform, but may be worn on a vest or banner, or attached to a cub scout academic/athletic letter.
